President of IFRC to visit Sri Lanka

The President of the International Federation of the Red Cross & Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Tadateru Konoé is scheduled to arrive tomorrow (January 26) in Sri Lanka to support the much needed flood operations and to celebrate volunteerism in the island.
Mr. Konoé is expected to meet President Mahinda Rajapakse, External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris, and the Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapakse during the time of his visit, a release by the IFRC states.
He is also scheduled to travel to the north, the east and the south of Sri Lanka to assess the aftermath of floods and also to witness the work of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and the IFRC in these parts of Sri Lanka.
“He will insist on the need for greater and long-term support to the people affected by this major disaster with a view of better taking into account the lessons learned from tsunami operations” the statement reads.
