The LTTE leadership is enjoying the freedom that has been won by our military forces while the leader that fought for this freedom has been imprisoned, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said today.

These comments came following media reports of LTTE Chief Arms Procurer Kumaran Pathmanathan visiting the North without security.

The UNP will protest the Independence Day celebrations in view of the imprisonment of Sarath Fonseka and will make a formal request to the government for his release.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, he said that the unfair treatment of the former Army Commander despite his great contribution towards ending the war was the reason for the protest.
