Fifty prison officers transferred ahead of Anuradhapura prison investigations

Fifty prison officers have been transferred to other prisons to ensure impartial investigations are conducted regarding the Anuradhapura Prison clashes which left two prisoners dead and several others injured last month.
Three separate investigations are been conducted concerning the incident while all measures are being taken to ensure the transparency of the inquiries Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera said.
Two separate investigations are being conducted by the Police and the Commissioner General of Prisons while the Ministry itself is carrying out a different inquiry into the matter. The Government Information Centre reported that the Minister has made an assurance that measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future while he will also speak with the President about easing prison congestion.
