President inaugurates new access to Yala

A new access road to the Yala National Park was opened by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (February 05) parallel to Deyata Kirula Exhibition in Buttala. Visitors will be able to enter the third zone (Block III) of the park through the new access road.


Over 250,000 tourists both foreign and local are said to have visited the Yala National Park last year alone. The government was able to receive revenue of Rs.190 million through this, park officials stated.


Meanwhile the officials also revealed that out of the total number of tourists some 75,000 were foreigners and that they intend to increase that number to 100,000 within the next year.
