JVP candidate for Pt. Pedro UC receives death threats

A JVP candidate, contesting for the Point Pedro Urban Council in the forthcoming Local Government election has been threatened by an unknown group disguised as policemen at her premises yesterday (February 05), the Point Pedro police stated.
Police said that the candidate, Ms. Thavarasa Pushparani had lodged a complaint at the Point Pedro police station today morning stating that a group dressed in police uniforms had arrived at her residence yesterday and had questioned her regarding her links with the JVP and her candidacy for the upcoming election.
The individuals had warned her not to contest in the election and had threatened to kill her if she did, Ada Deran District reporter stated.
