Rice prices have exceeded the control prices due to the weather conditions that prevail in most parts of the island as farmers find it difficult to dry their stocks, President of the Old Moor Street Traders Association, K. Palaniandy said.

He also stated that there is no shortage of any other food items in the market at the moment.

However, Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade, Johnston Fernando stated that he has directed authorities to take legal action against the Traders who are caught selling rice at prices above the capped levels.
