Courts issue injunction on UNP disciplinary inquiry on SLMC members

February 11, 2011   04:22 pm

Colombo District Court today (February 11) issued an injunction to UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, preventing them from taking any disciplinary action against Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader Minister Rauf Hakeem and seven other SLMC Parliamentarians.

The SLMC put forward a petition against the UNP in which they stated that disciplinary action was taken after the SLMC showed support towards the government during the 18th Constitutional Amendment. The petitioners further claimed that although they contested under the UNP ticket during the last General Election, they were lawfully members of the SLMC party while the UNP do not have the right to take disciplinary action against the members of the party.

Upon studying the petition the Court issued an injunction on the disciplinary inquiry until February 25.
