Scholarships to A/L students from the President’s Fund

Several selected students, who are scheduled to sit for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in 2011, are to be awarded scholarships by the President’s Fund. This program has been implemented in a move to safeguard the rights of education of all children, a President’s media release states. 


8218 students selected from every province in the island will be presented with scholarships under this year’s program.


Each educational zone will be provided with 100 scholarships while the students will receive an allowance of Rs.500 per month for a maximum duration of 24 months. 


A sum of 5 million rupees has been reserved for this project and President Mahinda Rajapaksa had handed over the scholarships to the provincial Chief Ministers at Temple Trees yesterday (February 11).
