The Sri Lanka Railway Department has warned the public to be vigilant and cautious around unprotected level crossings as the speed train service will commence today (February 16) and as there are over 90 unprotected crossings between Galle and Matara.
The modernized railway track which will be declared open today allows trains to hit speeds up to 100 kilometres-per-hour. Train services between Matara and Galle were suspended for the past six months due to the modernization work.
