February 16, 2011   09:23 pm

The District Court today (February 16) gave an order to keep the 112 Indian Fishermen in Police remand for two weeks along with the 18 fishing boats after they were arrested last night in Point Pedro for straying into Sri Lankan waters.

Large protests were staged today in India against the alleged shootings on Indian Fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy following the Police arrest made on the 112 fishermen yesterday.

Minister Douglas Devananda who met with the fishermen stated that they had accepted their fault and had requested that they be released. However, they will be kept in remand with their vessels for another two weeks.
