Rejected names switched with candidates of other parties

Rejected names switched with candidates of other parties

The Election Secretariat reveals that several complaints have been received regarding representatives of certain political parties and independent groups, whose nominations have been rejected, submitting their names in substitute of candidates from other political parties.

No individual has the right to contest the election under the symbol or nomination number of another candidate of any political party or independent group who is currently contesting for the election, the Election Commissioner expresses in a statement issued.

There is no representation of this under the Local Government Elections Ordinance and a candidates name cannot be substituted by another, the Commissioner informs to all candidates and voters alike.
