Two illegal TV stations raided in Ampara

Police have raided 2 illegally operating TV stations in Akkaraipattu and Thirukkovil in the Ampara District. Two suspects were also apprehended following the raid on the Akkaraipattu television station, police revealed.


It has been reported that the TV station in Akkaraipattu had catered to some 120 viewers broadcasting around 16 programs daily.


The station charges viewers Rs.350 monthly in addition to a standing charge of Rs. 3,000.


Police state that the illegal TV station in Thirukkovil, Ampara was similar to the one in Akkaraipattu and that a suspect had also been arrested during the raid.
