Lankans smoked 4200 million cigarettes in 2009

In 2009 Sri Lankans have consumed 4200 million cigarettes and 2270 million ‘beedi’, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Geethanjana Gunawardena revealed in parliament today. He said this in reply to a question raised by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake.

 

Gunawardena added that the total government revenue from the tax on the above mentioned items were Rs. 37800 million in 2009.
