Three arrested for Puttalam gold and cash robbery

Police have arrested three suspects in connection to the robbery of money and large amounts of gold from a businessman in the Puttalam area.


Four individuals in a three-wheeler are said to have approached the gold merchant at the Puttalam town on a previous date and had robbed gold worth over 1.2 million rupees and also Rs.5, 500 in cash from the victim.


Police say that they had apprehended three of the suspects following an investigation carried out afterwards by the Puttalam Police.


Some Rs.800, 000 worth gold, from the stolen gold and also the three-wheeler used in the robbery have been discovered by the police following the arrests. The suspects are scheduled to be presented before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court today (February 26).
