Police sergeant arrested with timber haul

Anuradhapura range forest officers have managed to expose an illegal timber transportation operation being carried out for a long period of time with the assistence of a police sergeant.


The police sergeant had been apprehended while transporting a haul of Teak timber worth over Rs.200, 000 in a lorry. A worker of a timber store in Anuradhapura who was present at the time had also been placed under arrest along with the policeman. 


It has been reported that the police sergeant has been involved in this timber racket for several years with the use of forged licenses.


While the police officer is said to be a resident of Anuradhapura he is attached to the Udamaluwa police.
