The JVP says that the reason there is no symbol of a lion, which is visible in previous currency notes, in the newly printed Rs.5000 note is probably due to the government thinking that the lion doesn’t suit their present policy.
The government has had to print Rs.5000 notes because the value of the rupee has gone down, nowadays it costs more than Rs.5000 to purchase items that previously cost only Rs.1000, the JVP’s Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath said.
According to the government’s present policy the fox is much more appropriate than the lion, he went on to say during a press conference today (February 27) at the party’s headquarters at Palawatta, Battaramulla.
The Parliamentarian expressed that due to the current situation in the country robbery and looting is occurring in all parts of the country.
“Back in the day people robbed gold or money. But now due to the greatness of the miracle of the ‘Chinthanaya’ essential foods such as potatoes and dhal are mostly being robbed” Vijitha Herath stated mentioning the recent theft of a lorry transporting potatoes, dhal and sugar from Ratmalana to Akuressa.
