What is most important to the people of the North and East is not the news “the war has ended” it is the issue “what will happen after the war?” the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) points out.
The policy statement issued by the party for the Local Government election and singed by ITAK General Secretary Mavai Senadhiraja states that the lives of the North, East people affected by the tsunami have not returned to normal yet, even though it has been over 5 years since the disaster struck.
Although 22 months have passed since the war has ended, the living standards of the people living in the war ravaged areas is low and even their basic needs are not being met, the policy statement which was unveiled in Kalmunai today (March 06) morning stated.
The mindset of the people in the North and East is still damaged following the war, just as the Hiroshima and Nagasaki incidents during the second World War still affects the people of Japan, the statement further reads.
