Three suspects remanded over attack on pregnant UPFA candidate

The Kadawatha Police stated that three suspects have been placed in remand custody in connection to the assault of an UPFA female candidate for the Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha. The suspects were ordered to be remanded till March 11 by the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court today.


Police revealed that a United National Party (UNP) candidate was amongst the three suspects.


The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) candidate, who had been admitted to the Ragama (Teaching) Hospital following the attack, is reported to be pregnant.
  

Meanwhile, women from the Mahara electorate had engaged in a protest today (March 06) against the incident.
