March 9, 2011   10:05 am

Fuel prices could increase due to the tense situation in the Middle East at the moment whereas it could also decrease because of the political situation in Libya, Minister of Petroleum Industries, Susil Premajayantha stated.

He also claimed that the opposition was trying desperately to make sure that domestic fuel prices increase while spreading false rumours that the government is attempting to privatize the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

Minister Premajayantha added that the government was able to maintain domestic fuel prices by granting a tax concession of Rs.10 even after world market prices on crude oil increased.
