The Official Spokesman for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Shri Vishnu Prakash has categorically denied Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne’s claims in Parliament that LTTE camps have been set up in Tamil Nadu, stating that Sri Lanka should desist from reacting to uncorroborated reports.
Speaking at a briefing regarding the visit of the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister, Prakash answered a journalist’s question regarding the Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s allegations to which he stated,
“We have seen reports from Sri Lanka referring to the Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s statement in their Parliament alluding to the presence of LTTE training camps in Tamil Nadu. We categorically deny the existence of any such camps. The Government of Sri Lanka have also not taken up this issue with us. Such a reference is indeed unfortunate and we urge the Government of Sri Lanka to desist from reacting to speculative and uncorroborated reports”, as reported on the official website of the Indian External Affairs Ministry.
