West Indies 275 (50 ov) beat Ireland 231/10 (49 ov) and won by 44 runs in their World Cup clash at the PCA stadium in Mohali a short while ago. Earlier Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss and elected to field against the West Indies in their Group B match.
Kieron Pollard’s 55-ball 94 and Devon Smith’s maiden ODI century powered the West Indies to 275 against Ireland in the first innings.
Pollard’s knock was studded with 5 sixes and 8 fours and it was due to his fiery knock that the West Indies ended up with a formidable total on the board as they were bowled out in 50 overs with Kevin O’Brien taking four wickets.
Smith hit his maiden ODI century off 124 balls but was clean bowled by Kevin O’Brien for 107.
Ed Joyce top scored for Ireland getting 84 from 106 balls, Gary Wilson also broke the half century scoring 61 from 62 balls. The disappointment was Kevin O’Brien who only scored 5 from 9 after being caught by Pollard.
