Group arrested attempting to illegally travel to Australia

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested a group while they were attempting to illegally travel to Australia in a multi-day trawler from the Chilaw area.
The arrested individuals, 12 women and 06 children, are reported to have arrived from Mulathivu, Kilinochchi, Jaffna and Batticaloa areas and were apprehended while lodged at Negombo and Wellawaththa.
Each suspect had agreed to provide Rs.400, 000 cash in order to be transported to Australia.
The trawler that had been prepared to transport the group was also taken into custody by security forces at the Ambakadhawila area in Chilaw along with 6,000 liters of fuel and stocks of food supplies.
