Japanese Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano has stated that an explosion has occurred at a nuclear plant in Fukushima Prefecture.

A loud blast was heard at the plant in Fukushima following a series of aftershocks. White smoke was soon after seen billowing over the plant, 150 miles north of Tokyo.

Several workers were reported to have been injured.

There were also reports that the hourly radiation levels at the damaged Japanese nuclear plant match the allowable annual dose, increasing the risk of developing cancer for anyone exposed to the leak. (telegraph.co.uk)
