Lanka offers help to disaster-hit Japan

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera to dispatch a team of trained rescue workers and a specialist medical team to quake and tsunami hit Japan. The President has also directed the Secretary to send US dollars one million as a donation by the people of Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile agency reports from Japan indicate that the death toll from the earthquake and tsunami that hit North-East Japan may exceed 10,000 as confirmed figures are still not established.
