OIC Rattota Police transferred following complaint

The OIC of Rattota Police in Matale District, where irregularities during postal voting had been reported, has been transferred to the Colombo Police headquarters with immediate effect.


Head of the Police Election Secretariat, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gamini Navaratne confirmed the transfer and revealed that a special inquiry in regard to the matter will commence shortly.


The Deputy Commissioner of Elections, Mathale District K.H.A. Meegasmulla had received a complaint stating that postal voting at the polling station held at the Rattota Police station did not proceed impartially.


The complaint was forwarded to the Election Commissioner, K.H.A. Meegasmulla said.
