Radiation checks for imports from Japan

March 20, 2011   05:01 pm

Special security precautions have been put into practice in order to protect the public from radiation affects from products imported through ports in Japan and surrounding areas.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Customs Department and the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority (SAEA) together have put this program into operation.

This is said to be due to the radiation leak that occurred from the quake and tsunami-hit Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan.

In addition to containers, vehicles being imported will also undergo a radiation check.
