A decisive United National Party (UNP) Working Committee meeting is to be held today (March 21) under the leadership of Ranil Wickramasinghe. The meeting is scheduled to commence at 3pm at party headquarters, Sirikotha.

It has been reported that the main topics to be discussed today is the party’s future leadership and the Local Government election results.

Discussions will also be held regarding new posts in the party while they are to be appointed under general agreement. If not so an election is to be held to decide the candidate for the post, states the UNP’s new constitution.

According to the new constitution, which was approved last year, individuals have to be named for several main positions before April 12.

Meanwhile the United National Party parliamentary group is also scheduled to meet tomorrow (March 22).
