Petition against Police inaction on Vickramabahu attack

Several organizations, leading activists and Attorneys have launched a public petition calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to explain why no legal action has been taken against the assailants who attacked the Nava Sama Samaja Party (NSSP) General Secretary at the Katunayake International Airport.

 

The petition states that Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne, General Secretary of the NSSP was attacked by a group led by Suresh Kumar Gunarathne, the son of former Deputy Minister of State Resources and Enterprise Development, Sarath Gunarathne on December 7, 2010 while no action has yet been taken against the identified assailants.

 

The petition will be handed to the IGP on tomorrow (March 24) following a public assembly outside the Fort Railway Station. The Asian Human Rights Commission forwarded the appeal requesting the public to support the petition.


Attorneys at law Chandrapala Kumarage and SG Punchihewa along with Sandhya Eknaligoda, Mahinda Dewage, Dharmasiri Lankapeli, M K Sivajilingam, V Thirunavakkarasu, Ajith Rupasinghe and Premapala Hewabatage have launched the petition.
