PSD head Nihal Karunaratne sentenced to two years

The former Director of the Presidential Security Division Nihal Karunaratne was sentenced to two years imprisonment and was suspended from duties for 10 years by the Colombo High Court today (March 25) after pleading guilty for obstructing the duties of a police officer.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs.25,000 while failure to pay this some would result in a further sentence of three months.
The Courts ordered Karunaratne to pay Rs. 3 lakhs in compensation to the aggrieved officer while a further sentence of six months will be added if the sum is not paid.
