Up to date there has been no political interference in any team selection matters, Former SLC Selection Committee chairman Aravinda De Silva said addressing his final press briefing a short while ago.

The President promised the selectors before the ICC World Cup that there will be no political or any other form of interference in selection matters and I’m exceedingly happy to step down with a clear conscience knowing that there was no interference into what we did.

Aravinda completely dismissed speculations surrounding the resignation adding that they were rumours being spread mainly by Indian media. He added that the decision to step down had nothing to do with an issue with the President. In fact we were encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by President Rajapaksa towards the team and cricket, Aravinda said.
