The Cooperatives and Internal Trade Ministry says that necessary steps have been taken to provide the public with essential items for the festive season without any shortage. Ministry Secretary Sunil S. Sirisena assured that food stocks needed have already been gathered.

He pointed out that required amounts of supplies have been provided to government controlled establishments such as Sathosa, cooperatives, Co-op City and also to privately owned traders.

Whole sale prices have dropped down in comparison to last week and therefore people will be able to purchase goods at concessionary prices without any shortage, Sunil S. Sirisena said he believed.

Meanwhile he added that raids carried out on stores islandwide will continue throughout the New Year season.
