1243 establishments fined for unhygienic food

Food handling establishments across the island will be inspected within the forthcoming festive season, says the Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association.
According to the Chairman of the association Upul Rohana, legal action has been taken against 1243 such establishments following inspections carried out from January 01 to March 25 this year.
He stated that these establishments were fined Rs. 4,171,000 in total after cases were filed against them.
Several operations will be put into practice along with the New Year season in order to create an environment where the public will be able to purchase safe and healthy food items without any fears, Upul Rohana added.
