Eight Sri Lankan fishermen, who had been arrested by Indian Coast Guards (ICG), are set to return to the island tomorrow (April 10). The fishermen will be escorted by the ICG and handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy at Kankesanthurai coastal area, Fisheries Ministry revealed.

The Indian government has also decided to return five fishing vessels to Sri Lanka.

Accordingly two fishermen that had set sail on boats ‘Rohana Putha’ and ‘Hiran Putha’ from the Trincomalee area and also a group of fishermen that had gone to sea from Devinuwara and Negombo will be freed and returned to Sri Lanka.

As a result there are no more Sri Lankan fishermen held in custody in Tamil Nadu or in Andra Pradesh anymore, the Ministry stated.
