Orion City is fast emerging as a destination for all IT, ITES and BPO companies with the potential to grow to a ‘top class’ IT Park in the region, according to V. Ravisankar, CEO of Tata Communications. The comments were made by Ravisankar on the occasion of TATA Communication’s recent shift to Orion City.
Established in 2007, Orion City is Sri Lanka’s premier IT Park and is part of the St. Anthony’s Group of Companies. The multiplex IT Park spans over 13 acres, and is home to global ITO/BPO companies including Virtusa, MediGain, MphasiS, E-College, Cinergix, Saber Technologies, HelloCorp and IGT Global.
The IT Park is developing features like a mall, food court, banking facilities, multiplex and theatres and visitor apartments for consultants.
Speaking in detail on the move, Ravisankar explained, “We are happy to establish our infrastructure to serve the global communication requirements of the companies that are already operating and those expected to start operations in the park. I am sure we can leverage on TATA Communication’s top class global network in providing affordable and technically superior solutions faster to the doorsteps of clients working at Orion City.”
TATA Communications is a global provider of new-world communications with a leadership position in emerging markets. The Tata Global Network includes one of the most advanced and largest submarine cable networks, a Tier-1 IP network, with connectivity to more than 200 countries across 400 PoPs, and nearly 1 million square feet of data center and collocation space worldwide.
In its seven years of operation, the company has carved a niche for itself by catering to the International Telecommunication needs of telecom operators and customers in Sri Lanka. TATA Communications Lanka has unrestricted access to the network and infrastructure of TATA Communications Ltd. in order to provide services to its customers in Sri Lanka. It currently owns Bandwidth on SEA-ME-WE-3 and SEA-ME-WE-4 under sea cable systems in Sri Lanka. It also has got its own Standard F3 satellite earth station as redundant path for real time service requirements.
Commenting on Orion City’s latest entrant, Jeevan Gnanam, CEO of Orion Management Consortium said, “We’re proud to be collaborating with groups such as TATA Communications as they endorse our commitment in providing end-to-end IT-based infrastructure solutions at one central location so our tenants can focus on their core business. We also believe that moves of this nature will seal Orion City’s fate as the preferred IT Park in the country, and some day, the region.”
