The Kaytes police have begun investigations into a gruesome incident of a 12 year old girl who was reported to have been raped by her father.
This was revealed after the child had been admitted to the Kaytes government hospital as a result of a complaint lodged by the child’s mother with the Kaytes Police. The mother said that the accused had been under the influence of liquor at the time and in an ensuing quarrel had even chased her out of the house after which he had subjected his daughter to sexual abuse. The suspect is said to be in hiding and the police are conducting further investigations.
In a shocking yet similar case a young girl from the Settikulum area in Vavuniya is reported to have been allegedly abused and raped by her father. It is reported that the child had been repeatedly subject to sexual abuse by her father for a period of nearly a year as a result of which she is now five months pregnant. The suspect is now in hiding and the Vavuniya police are carrying out further investigations.
Police records reveal that incidents of underage rape including those committed by a child’s father or relative had seen a rise during the last few years.
