Prisoners allowed visits, Avurudu treats today as well

Prisons Commissioner Major General V.R. de Silva says that relatives of prison inmates will be allowed within today as well to visit prisoners in light of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The relatives and friends of 14,000 or so inmates in prisons islandwide will be afforded the opportunity to pay a visit today, he stated “even though prisoners are allowed only one visit per month, we have removed that restriction this time.”
He also said that visitors have been allowed to bring Avurudu treats for the prisoners while preparations have been completed for all New Year customs and traditions to be carried out in all prisons in the country.
