T.M. Dilshan is likely to be appointed to lead the Sri Lankan cricket team as captain, informed sources told Ada Derana a short while ago. Angelo Mathews is likely to be appointed as vice captain.

This decision comes in the wake of the resignations of Kumar Sangakkara as captain and Mahela Jayawardene as vice captain following the defeat at the ICC 2011 Cricket World Cup finals played against India.

Tillakaratne Mudiyanselage Dilshan, born in October 1976 in Kalutara, Sri Lanka is a Sri Lankan cricketer and member of the Sri Lankan national cricket team since November 1999. He debuted against Zimbabwe in 1999 where he scored his maiden Test hundred in the series with a 163.

Dilshan is the architect of Dilscoop, played straight over the wicket keeper’s head which he played during the ODI between Sri Lanka and India in August 2010.

Born in June 1987, Angelo Davis Mathews had his formal education at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. He captained the Sri Lanka team in the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.

He made his international debut in a One Day International against Zimbabwe in November 2008 and in November 2010 he was named ‘Personality of the Year’ by Living Magazine in Sri Lanka.
