UN report based on false information - Prof. Vitharana

April 16, 2011   04:12 pm

The report submitted by the special committee appointed by the General Secretary of the United Nations to look into Sri Lanka seriously questions the country’s sovereignty, the Senior Minister of Scientific Affairs Prof. Tissa Vitharana stated.

The Minister said that the report bases itself on false information that has been publicized by LTTE sympathizers while adding that the report was made with the aim of getting the government to present itself before an international tribunal to answer charges pertaining to war crimes.

The Minister told Ada Derana that the report was also aimed at giving the UN a base from which they can directly interfere with the affairs of the country. Therefore, Prof. Vitharana stated that he completely rejected the report.
