A 25-year-old in Tamil Nadu on Sunday died after he set himself ablaze, allegedly over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, Indian media reported. The deceased, R. Krishnamurthy, residing at Seegampatty in Nellai District had reportedly written a final letter before committing self-immolation.
The deceased, an engineer by profession, in the letter had cited that he could no longer bare the injustice continuously faced by the Tamil population in Sri Lanka, before he doused himself with petrol.
Krishnamurthy’s parents had attempted to put out the flames and later rushed him to the hospital, however he had already passed away upon admittance.
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko speaking on the incident had stated that Krishnamurthy was not the first to set himself on fire on behalf of the Sri Lankan Tamils.
K. Muthukumaran in Chennai had also passed away after setting set himself ablaze, he said.
