The Postal Services Ministry stated that a three member committee has been appointed to investigate into all forms of corruption and malpractices in the postal department.

The committee comprising of former judge Nihal Silva, former Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry S. Wirithamulla and former Secretary of Post and Telecommunications Ministry C. Maliyadda will allow the open submission of evidence in relation to all forms of corruption within the department. The Ministry further stated that the submission of evidence will commence from the May 1.

This step was taken in the wake of numerous allegations of corruption and fraud within the department following which the Minister of Postal Services took steps to transfer all powers under the Post Master General to the Secretary of the Postal Service Ministry.
