UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella stated that every case of human rights violation should not be considered as a war crime. At a press conference held in Colombo today (20) he further added that the UN report on war crimes and human rights violations has resulted in bringing dishonor to the country.

He stated that allegations of this nature would be made regardless of which government was in power but that the present government  should take adequate measures in order to avoid such situations which would disgrace the country’s image.

He further stated that the government should take necessary steps to lift the state of emergency, relax the Prevention of Terrorism Act and adequately compensate the families of disappeared persons while issuing death certificates for such persons.
