Govt. asks UN not to take action on ‘unaccpetable’ report

April 21, 2011   03:46 pm

The Sri Lankan Government has requested the UN not to take any action on its Expert Panel report as its report is wrong and unacceptable, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris today said addressing a press conference.

The Minister added that the publication is flawed in his entirety. Hence any action taken in response to this report is unacceptable and wrong, Peiris added.

When questioned on the recent allegation by the UN that the Sri Lankan Government leaked the report Peiris queried as to what capacity would the Lankan government who opposed the report from its inception and is against its publication want to leak it to the media.

He said that a copy of the report was handed over to the Sri Lankan government on April 12. He stressed that the report could not be attributed to the United Nations as it was a report compiled by a mere panel appointed to advise the UN Secretary General.
