The Pugoda Magistrates Court today (April 28) temporarily banned the operation of the Lanka e-News website until the court proceedings regarding arrested Journalist Shantha Wijesooriya are over.

Wijeysooriya was arrested by the Kirindawela police after the news website had published what the Pugoda Magistrate deemed as a slanderous article (April 10) towards the courts.

The Courts directed the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) to temporarily ban the website until the hearing is complete while the Police were ordered to keep Wijeysooriya in remand until May 12.
