New marriage laws to prevent incidence of Thalassemia

The National Thalassemia Centre today proposed to the Government to bring new laws to make pre-marital blood testing compulsory. The aim of this move is to prevent the incidence of Thalassemia through marriages between Thalassemia carriers.
Each year around 80 children are diagnosed with Thalassemia, the Centre added.
