President instructs Southern Highway to be open by August

Complete the construction work of the Southern Express Highway speedily, President Mahinda Rajapakse has instructed relevant officials. He had stressed that the expressway has to be opened for public by August this year.


The President made these statements at a discussion with the relevant officials including Deputy Ministers of Ports and Highways, Nirmala Kothalawala and Rohita Abeygunawardena and Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P.B. Jayasundera at Temple Trees yesterday (May 05).


Emphasis was given to topics such as toll charges for admission to the highway, management affairs, maintenance and insurance, during the meeting.
