The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today stated that they unconditionally support the struggle being carried out by university lecturers demanding a pay hike. University lecturers have not been given a formal increase in salaries since 1996, said Tilvin Silva.

Compared to countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh university lecturers in Sri Lanka are receiving a very low income, the General Secretary of the JVP expressed during a press briefing today (May 08).

Not directing attention towards the issues of university lecturers is a serious situation, he emphasized stating that these lecturers seeking foreign employment or other professions cannot be avoided due to this.
