Court permits detention of heroin suspect

The Kandy Magistrate’s Court today (May 09) permitted the detention of a suspect, apprehended with heroin worth around Rs. 1 million, for 7 days under a detention order. The suspect had in his possession 67g and 168mg of heroin when arrested in Alawathugoda, Kandy.
Presenting the suspect, a 52-year-old resident of Battaramulla, to court today police requested permission to detain him longer for further interrogation.
Therefore the Magistrate’s Court granted permission to detain the suspect for 7 days under a detention order.
Information has been uncovered that the suspect in question has been dealing illegal drugs for a long period of time and has even distributed to areas such as Dambulla, Mathale and Kandy.
