Sri Lanka will adhere to the decision to strip boxer Manju Wanniarachchi’s gold medal by the Commonwealth Games Federation, Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage speaking exclusively to Ada Derana said.
The 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal of Sri Lankan boxer Manju Wanniarachchi was stripped and awarded to Wales’ Sean McGoldrick following a verdict given by Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Court in Kuala Lumpur Sunday (May 08).
Wanniarachchi had been tested positive for anabolic steroids following his bantamweight bout with 18-year-old McGoldrick in the final in Delhi.
Subsequent to the ruling Wanniarachchi’s lawyer Kalinga Indatissa had expressed to foreign media that they would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for it to be overturned.
