Shirani Bandaranayake takes oath as new CJ

Senior Supreme Court Judge Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake took oaths as the new Chief Justice before President Mahinda Rajapakse a short while ago, becoming Sri Lanka’s first woman Chief Justice.
Incidentally she is Sri Lanka’s 33rd Chief Justice, succeeding her retiring predecessor former Chief Justice Asoka de Silva.
President Mahinda Rajapakse’s nomination of Dr. Bandaranayake, formerly Associate Professor of Law and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, as the new CJ was approved by the Parliamentary Council on May 12.
