There was a certain time when leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe had been antagonized by advice provided by him and had threatened to withdraw from the trusteeship of the Gangaramaya, said Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera this evening.
Delivering a sermon after the Gangaramaya Vesak zone was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa this evening (May 18), the Venerable Thera said that he had advised all to render their fullest cooperation to the President and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa when they were engaged in fighting the most brutal terrorist organization in the world, the LTTE.
Ven. Gnanissara Thera said that Mr. Wickremesinghe had, at that time, got antagonized and had threatened to withdraw from the trusteeship of the Gangaramaya.
“But fortunately he did not do that. And now we are happy that even Ranil Wickremesinghe is supporting President Rajapaksa on certain issues facing the country. We are happy and bless such cooperation in future too,” added a smiling Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thera.
Referring to the media, the Venerable said that not only in Sri Lanka but the world over the media has become a mafia. Some in this country too have been and are covertly spreading false propaganda against Sri Lanka. He urged the people to be united in suppressing such anti-national attempts.
Sri Lanka, as a nation should act with conviction, compassion and loving kindness to thwart all attempts against the country, Ven. Gnanissara added.
